SGS MentPro Leaders' Series - In Conversation with Piyush Gupta
Organiser: Singapore Gujarati Society (SGS)
Date: 16 July 2017
The MentPro Talk is an initiative by the Singapore Gujarati Society (SGS) which provides career advice to those entering the workforce, seeking career progression or making mid-career changes. Captains of industry and business leaders are also invited to share their experience. For the session on 16 July 2017, supported by the NIC, guest speaker Mr Piyush Gupta (CEO, DBS Bank) spoke about his professional and personal journey, including his experiences with integrating into Singapore society.
“The thing is, cultures take a long time to change – they can be changed but not overnight. In the meantime, you just have to accept that this is the culture of the location and you adapt to it.”
– Mr Piyush Gupta
Mr Gupta shared how Indian immigrants could adapt to the new work environment in Singapore, and the importance of cultural awareness and communication when interacting with people of different cultures and nationalities at work. He also highlighted the importance of adapting to local cultural norms and the need to embrace diversity. Participants also had the opportunity to interact with the speaker at a moderated dialogue.
